Order the set from ShoutFactory.com and receive a gift with purchase: Iggy Pop – Live in San Francisco – November 27, 1979, a previously unreleased concert CD not available anywhere else, limited to 400 numbered copies http://www.shoutfactorystore.com/prod.aspx?pfid=5257387.

This collection is a part of a series of "official" bootleg releases by Shout! Factory, with the blessing and participation of artists who can now exact a measure of quality control to provide fans with only the best performances, highest quality recordings, and superior packaging with photos and original illustrations.  Previous releases in the series include Emerson Lake & Palmer's A Time And A Place and Todd Rundgren's For Lack Of Honest Work.  Several more releases are currently in the works.

Roadkill Rising features tracks recorded all over the world, including major tracks such as "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "Lust For Life," "Real Wild Child," "China Girl," one of many co-writes with David Bowie. Among the other artists Pop covers here are Them ("Gloria"), The Kinks ("You Really Got Me"), Richard Berry ("Louie, Louie), and The McCoys ("Hang On Sloopy").

Known to many as the "Godfather of Punk" for his groundbreaking recordings and an incredible influence on other artists, Pop (nee James Newell Osterberg), formed the Stooges in 1967 with Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, and Dave Alexander. It didn't take the band long to become well-known on the Detroit scene, coming up alongside other acts such as MC5. In 1968 the band got their first record deal, as Pop become notorious for his aggressive stage antics. Their first two albums, The Stooges and Fun House, unleashed a new form of music, but by 1971 Pop was battling heroin addiction, the band was dropped by their label, and subsequently broke up.

Pop then began a new phase of his career, working with David Bowie. Iggy & The Stooges reunited, with new member James Williamson replacing Dave Alexander, to release the Bowie-produced Raw Power. However, by 1974 The Stooges had once again disbanded. Pop proceeded on as a solo artist after seeking help in rehab, with Bowie producing and co-writing two albums with him in 1977, The Idiot, which bore the future hit "China Girl," and Lust For Life. In 1979 Pop collaborated with James Williamson once again for New Values.

The 80's were a prolific time for Pop, who released a number of solo albums, including Soldier (1980), Party (1981), Zombie Birdhouse (1982), and Blah, Blah, Blah (1986), which featured the hit "Real Wild Child." In 1988 Pop joined up with Steve Jones of Sex Pistols fame to release the hard rock-leaning Instinct, and with 1990's Brick By Brick scored his first gold-certified album in the U.S. as well as a Top 20 hit with "Candy," a duet with Kate Pierson of the B-52's.

The 90's saw a wave of recognition for Pop, with his songs being covered by a list of artists as diverse as Duran Duran, Slayer and Tom Jones. He released a remastered version of Raw Power, was featured on VH1's Behind The Music, and released two new albums, American Caesar (1993) and Avenue B (1999).

After releasing two more solo efforts, Beat Em Up (2001), and Skull Ring (2003), featuring Ron and Scott Asheton, Pop and The Stooges reunited once again, with Mike Watt taking over for the late Dave Alexander, and thrilled fans at the Coachella festival with their first performance in 30 years. In addition to the release of two retrospective compilations, The Stooges would tour for the next few years and in 2007 released a new album, The Wierdness.

2009 saw the solo release Preliminaires, a jazz influenced album and a true departure for Pop. Tragically, Ron Asheton died of a heart attack in 2009, just a year before The Stooges were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Roadkill Rising: The Bootleg Collection 1977–2009, captures the power, intensity and history of Pop and The Stooges and is a must anthology for fans.
