STEVE EARLE SUPPORTS WISCONSIN WORKERS WITH BENEFIT SINGLE "HARLAN MAN"

In support of the protests of public worker unions in Wisconsin and elsewhere, Steve Earle has released the songs, "Harlan Man" and "The Mountain" as a special 2-track digital single with all profits benefiting The America Votes Labor Unity Fund via SaveWorkers.org.  Originally appearing on Earle's critically acclaimed 1999 bluegrass album with the Del McCoury Band, The Mountain,  both "Harlan Man" and "The Mountain" depict life as a card-carrying union miner.  "Harlan Man" features the lyric "I'm a union man, just like my daddy and all my kin, I took a union stand, no matter what the company said, I got me two good hands, and just as long as I'm able I won't give in"  The digital b-side, "The Mountain," is a longtime live favorite at Steve Earle performances.  The digital single is available now via iTunes HERE.    "Unions are a fundamental component of Democracy throughout the free world.  All eyes are on Wisconsin," stated Steve Earle.    The America Votes Labor Unity Fund is the fiscal agent of the AFL-CIO State Unity Fund, a special account of the AFL-CIO and directed by a broad coalition of national labor organizations to promote fair labor-management relations in the private and public sectors and defend workers and their unions against state legislation, ballot measures and executive orders that are aimed at undermining or destroying organizing and bargaining rights and unemployment standards.   In states like Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana, Republican legislatures are moving to strip middle class workers of their collective bargaining rights.  The America Votes Labor Unity Fund united labor organizations, allied progressive groups and individuals to fight for workers -- on the ground and on the airwaves.   Contributions help activists campaign in 11 states: Florida, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
