Todd Sharpville Porchlight
Porchlight features 15 tracks, none more than soul stirring than “Why Does It Rain?” As Sharpville wails to God, “down on my knees,” you can feel the blues powering through a soul of a master musician. Other standouts include “When the World is Not Enough,” featuring Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds on harmonica, and “When the Blues Come Calling.”
The latter track also includes the standout guitar work of Joe Louis Walker coming through the right speaker, while Sharpville’s own playing blast through the left. The mix allows the listener to clearly distinguish the individuals’ distinct styles, allowing for an even greater appreciation of the talent of both guitarists

James Yuill Announces US Release of "Movement in a Storm" on Moshi Moshi, Performs at SXSW 2011
A man with a quasi-monastic lifestyle, Yuill is never happier than when he's making music, alone in his Dalston flat, entirely oblivious to the whims of the east London scene, or the rules and regulations of wider music culture. Here, in his spare bedroom studio, there's no contradiction between delivering a series of acclaimed remixes for other artists (We Have Band, Tilly & The Wall, Au Revoir Simone....), raving about Take That - "Gary Barlow is a genius" - or his teenage obsession with Nirvana. That's James Yuill's world. And he's happy in it.
Yuill's debut, Turning Down Water For Air, was a folk record quietly and modestly underpinned by electronics. It infiltrated clubland (most notably, the massive Prins Thomas re-edit of "This Sweet Love") almost by accident. Movement In A Storm is very different. Where Yuill constructs and develops strummed ideas on his acoustic guitar, it's the way he radically manipulates such outlines that make it a standout. Colored-in with great neon splashes of data, he upgrades, reboots and digitalizes the core of his latest output in a way that only enhances his melancholic tone, heightening the emotional impact immeasurably. Certainly, it should make any journalist think twice before ever mentioning "folktronica" and James Yuill, in the same sentence, ever again.
For a man who started out writing, playing, producing and releasing his own music from his bedroom HQ, Yuill has been getting out and about a bit lately. Since the release of his 2009 debut, he has toured the UK, Europe, Japan and in 2010 made forays into South America and Indonesia, where he played respective sold out shows with Hot Chipand The Temper Trap. He has also toured the US several times, and will be returning to the states for a number of performances at this year's SXSW '11 .
Trashcan Sinatras To Tour North America In March
The month-long acoustic tour will not only offer fans a chance to see the Trashcan Sinatras up close and personal, but also give them an opportunity to help shape the show - the band is taking requests for each date through their website, www.trashcansinatras.com, and is also looking for trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn players to join them onstage at each tour stop.
Trashcan Sinatras released their debut album Cake in 1990, and first toured the United States a year later on the strength of their alternative radio hits "Obscurity Knocks" and "Only Tongue Can Tell." The Scottish imports became instant darlings on the indie-pop scene, their supple harmonies, relaxed arrangements and clever wordplay drawing comparisons to Morrissey's seminal UK outfit The Smiths.
The upcoming tour launches with a free show in Houston, where the band haven't played in more than a decade, and makes first time stops in Charlotte, NC, Northampton, MA, Dayton, OH and Kansas City, MO, while concentrating on markets the band hasn't played since their Weightlifting tours in 2004/5.
Material will span the band's five studio releases, as well as their new live acoustic album Brel, which features the upcoming tour's lineup of Frank Reader (vocals/guitar), John Douglas (guitar/vocals), Paul Livingston (lead guitar) and Stephen Douglas (percussion/vocals).
Unavailable on either of their new releases is the band's cover of the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye," which they were asked to record for a year-long ad campaign promoting Tokyo's Narita Aiport.

BLIZZARD MUSIC TOUR WITH NELLY TOUR ADDS SUPPORTING ACT CALI SWAG DISTRICT
Platinum selling Los Angeles recording group Cali Swag District (Smoove, Yung, JayAre and M-Bone) will be joining Nelly on the Blizzard Music tour which kicks off March 1st. The 'Teach Me How To Dougie' rappers were added as special guests to the 10 tour dates below and will be performing hits from their forthcoming debut album "The KickBack" due in stores this February.
"We're honored to share the stage with a reputable artist like Nelly," says Yung. "We have an amazing show prepared and will show people that we have so much more incredible music beyond the Dougie."
Cali Swag District's debut single "Teach Me How To Dougie" turned a dance originally created by legendary rapper Doug E. Fresh into a pop culture phenomenon that had everyone including Ellen DeGeneres, Barbara Walters, CNN 'Situation Room' host Wolf Blitzer, Wendy Williams, the cast ofGlee, Oliver Stone, Mo'Nique, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Kim Kardashian celebrating and doing their own translation of the Dougie.
While 2010 was the 'year of the Dougie' as reported by Wall Street Journal, 2011 is proving to be very fruitful for the Inglewood natives. Yung, Smoove, JayAre and M-Bone have recently released their new single "KickBack" which has been shooting up the urban airplay chart. And the accompanying music video for 'KickBack' has already been added to MTV Jams and Fuse rotation and will premiere as the 'New Joint' on BET's 106 and Park.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in New Volkswagen Ad
JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION RECORDS "BLACK BETTY"
VERSION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY BEETLE
Bank Robber Music and Deutsch LA are proud to announce that the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will be the music behind Volkswagen's new 21st Century Beetle ad campaign. The band recorded a version of the blues classic "Black Betty" for the spot. The :30 second spot will be premiering during Super Bowl XLV this Sunday.
"Deutsch was working with Volkswagen and contacted me, wanting to get a bunch of bands to cover 'Black Betty,'" said Bank Robber Music's Lyle Hysen. "If one band is going to do this song and get it right for the 21st century, it's going to be The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion."
To view the ad, click HERE
In "Black Beetle," the first spot for The 21st Century Beetle, cutting-edge CGI creative goes etymological, creating a photo-real lush kingdom where the Black Beetle rules, runs, navigates and out performs all the other creatures. The ad is an homage to some of the greatest car chase scenes in the history of film and TV. With the fast- paced and explosive "Black Betty," the Beetle ad revs to life even though it does not feature any actual images of the car, a bold move for any automotive brand. The iconic shape of the Beetle and its performance attributes are prominently showcased in the spot, further building anticipation of the reveal.
The ad will also have an extension that will live beyond the game. Immediately following the Super Bowl, Volkswagen will execute a digital and social media campaign, including an ESPN mobile takeover, VW.comblog, and Facebook activations, as well as a YouTube homepage takeover for the recently launched walk-around webisodes "Inside the VW Academy."
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion recently released an anthology of the band called Dirty Shirt Rock 'N' Roll, The First Ten Years as well as four double discs comprising all the band's material from 1993 - 1998 on Majordomo via Shout Factory Records
Laura Jansen¹s Single Girls, A Definitive List Of Remedies For The Broken Hearted
"Single Girls," the emotionally loaded first single from 'Bells,' the US debut of LA-based Hotel Cafe mainstay Laura Jansen out March 22 on Decca Records, is a breathy, delicate pop metaphor for the devastation of getting your heart smashed to pieces. It also doubles as a list of remedies for broken hearted women and an anti-Valentine's day anthem.
To overcome her broken heart, Jansen details her path to clarity, which includes: drinking with the guy down the hall, reading books on meditation, praying for the heart's salvation, cutting hair, painting the walls, not thinking about the one who broke her heart.
Watch the visually inventive video for "Single Girls," and get the heart wrenching advice straight from Jansen's mouth:

2011 is shaping up to be a big year for Jansen. In addition to the album, she'll tour with Joshua Radin and Cary Brothers, make a stop at SXSW and head out on the Hotel Café tour later in the year.

Shorty, a 2010 GRAMMY nominee, is the big winner with five Offbeat magazine Best of the Beat awards; joins First Lady Michelle Obama and NBA superstar Kevin Durant as one of NBC News' "Grio's 100: History Makers in the Making"
At the Best of the Beat ceremony January 28 celebrating OffBeat's nominees, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue received the most awards of the night, winning Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Backatown, Best R&B/Funk Artist, Best R&B/Funk Album for Backatown, and Best Trombonist. "On Backatown, Trombone Shorty has created an album that brings the New Orleans brass band and funk traditions up to date," says Alex Rawls, editor of OffBeat. The Seedy Seeds- New Album and Tour News
TITLE TRACK MADE AVAILABLE FOR FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD
SPRING 2011 TOUR WITH SXSW DATES
The Seedy Seeds are excited to present their new album Verb Noun, available on the road at up coming tour dates and via select record stores and online outlets within the coming months. The Cincinnati trio have won attention for their "passionate indie pop with an electronic backbone and a folksy heart" (CityBeat), earning them a nod from Paste as a "Best of What's Next" this past summer, and landing their track "Earned Average Dance America" as an NPR Song Of The Day. "For all the whirling bits and pieces..." wrote NPR, "the band generates a surprisingly cohesive sound.. it's dizzying, perplexing and wonderfully fun."
Listen to the Title Track "Verb Noun" streaming here
Download The MP3 here (OK to Post)
http://theseedyseeds.com/_offsite/_audio/_DLs/_press/TSSVN_dls/05VerbNoun.mp3.zip
With Verb Noun the band continue to expand their sound, blending elements of electronica with the typically analog sounds of banjo, strings, and vocal harmonies. The contrast is warm and inviting, creating energetic music that is equally at home alongside a dance remix as it is alt-country or lo-fi pop.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo Called Back Home on NPR
For their new album, 'Songs From a Zulu Farm' (out this week on Listen 2 Entertainment Group/Razor & Tie Entertainment), South Africa's a cappella treasure Ladysmith Black Mambazo went back home.
Original band member Albert Mazibuko and 20-year band manager Mitch Goldstein joined NPR Weekend Edition Sunday's host Liane Hansen to discuss how Ladysmith Black Mambazo collected songs traditionally sung by Zulu parents to their children for the new album.
"There's such a rich, wonderful history. A personal history that comes from the group that's not always found in their CDs," Goldstein said. Mazibuko added, "When my grandmother told me about the songs, she said that their parents were singing the same songs to them."
Listen to the NPR interview here:
http://www.npr.org/2011/01/30/133304252/ladysmith-black-mambazo-back-to-the-beginning
Ladysmith Black Mambazo was featured earlier this month on AOL's Spinner blog, where Mazibuko, said, "Most of these songs we sing, even the traditional songs and the songs we wrote as a group, are the songs that always have lessons of encouragement, this kind of instruction."

The White Stripes are No More
The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.
The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.
It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.
Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of The White Stripes' intense and incredible career.
Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.
Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn't met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created. It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who've shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly.
With that in mind the band have this to say:
"The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful."
Sincerely,
Meg and Jack White

Critical acclaim for ESPERANZA SPALDING: "I love listening to Esperanza, she is wonderful."- President Barack Obama "Her soulful songs and masterful bass playing have made Esperanza Spalding a rising star." - People "Eclectic and charming." - USA Today "...her talent is undeniable." - Rolling Stone "Since the 2008 release of 'Esperanza,' Ms. Spalding has been the recipient of a truly unusual amount of goodwill. A smart, surefooted bassist and a frolicsome, irrepressible singer, she does her part to justify the acclaim." - The New York Times "Spalding's latest idea is the ambitious new album 'Chamber Music Society,'...Described by Spalding as reference to the definition of chamber music as 'music among friends,' the album lives up to its title with the backing of a string trio and elliptical, classical-informed structures, but pushes the concept into eclectic new corners." - Los Angeles Times |
Tristen - Album Out, East Coast Tour, Daytrotter Session news
TODAY FEBRUARY 1ST 2011 (PHYSICAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 15TH)
EAST COAST TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
DAYTROTTER SESSION UNVEILED
Charlatans At The Garden Gate has been met with wide ranging praise. The Onion writes that Tristen "has crafted a confident, poignant folk-pop debut that never wants for hooks, and manages to undercut its sing-songiness at every turn with unflinching lyrics and mature songwriting." Bust writes that "she caught up to her contemporaries and surpassed them in one fell swoop. As soon as the vocals kick in on the opener 'Eager for Your Love,' it's impossible not to listen to this record all the way through. Man this girl can sing." The home town Nashville Scene noted that "With or without Tristen's acute capacity to portray relationships and ideology gone wrong, Charlatans is a musical document billowing over with rich, vintage hues and irrepressible hooks, her reverence for the lions of pop music and confident sense of self all meted out in the same breath."
Stream "Eager For Your Love" and "Baby Drugs" to sample. Let us know if you'd like a copy for review.
In December 2010 Tristen and crew stopped by the Daytrotter Studios in Rock Island, IL. A few months later and those recordings are finally available for our ears. Head on over to www.daytrotter.com to check out the session.
