The Giving Tree Band Recording New Album

Since the release of their latest album The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious, The Giving Tree Band have kept busy crisscrossing the nation, playing anywhere their path takes them. Be it a road house, large scale music festival, small bar, or The Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, they've humbly brought their music to those who would listen. This summer and fall they'll continue to do so, with new dates currently confirmed through mid-October. Dates Below.

Through it all the band have seen the crowds that greet them steadily increase as they've made a name for themselves by way of their live performances and excellent albums. On the PBS television program, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, host Michael Johnathon introduced The Giving Tree Band as "the spirit of Pete Seeger with the musical abilities of The Band and the audaciousness of The Avett Brothers" The band were labeled a band "On The Verge" by Relix Magazine, and in anAcoustic Guitar magazine feature this Spring, were described as covering a "wide swath of the classic rock pantheon-such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Band, the Grateful Dead, and the Beatles-but with a fuller sound featuring quasi-orchestral instrumentation and barbershop harmonies."

Apart from their sound, The Giving Tree Band is also giving a new look to rock and roll - one that is healthy and hip. Perhaps the rarest aspect of the band is their diet. It is estimated that less than 1% of Americans identify as vegan, and yet all seven members of the GTB have embraced this lifestyle. They also remain drug and alcohol free in order to access deeper creative potential and, in all likelihood, longevity. The Fink brothers felt that if John Lennon and John Coltrane endorsed sobriety at the end of their lives, then they would begin their musical journey where their idols left off (at least philosophically) and see what's possible. The Giving Tree Band is also widely considered to be one of the "greenest" bands and known for extraordinary environmental stewardship which includes custom instruments made from naturally fallen trees and reclaimed woods, biodiesel tours, affinity for biking and camping, 100% recycled packaging of all CD's, carbon neutral album production, and donating as much as 50% of sales to eco-friendly charities.

When not touring The Giving Tree band have been busy at their home studio in Yorkville, IL, working on recording their fourth studio album. The past year on the road has greatly affected the bands sound as they've begun to introduce more of their rock 'n' roll influenced live sound to their songwriting and recording. The band hope to complete the album this fall and plan to release their new record in 2012. In the mean time, they will be featured on a benefit compilation entitled, Home On The Range, alongside other notable vegetarian and vegan artists Chrissie Hynde, Yoko Ono, Moby and Matisyahu. Set for a September release, proceeds will go to farm animal sanctuaries that rescue and care for abused and neglected farm animals.

Keb Mo's Anticipated New Album, The Reflection, Out Today

Keb Mo has returned with a widely praised new album, The Reflection, out today on Yolabelle/Ryko. The album is receiving overwhelming critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone praising Keb Mo's "soulful voice and bluesy licks," and Associated Press declaring, "with bluesy guitars, groovy Hammond Organs, and Keb Mo's rich, smoky voice, The Reflection is a warm, mellow ride from start to finish." Likewise, Philadelphia Daily News affirms, "You'd need a cold heart and tin ears to remain unmoved by Keb Mo's new album."  Keb Mo will perform his hit single "The Whole Enchilada" on "Conan" August 10.

Keb Mo's thirty-date tour kicks of August 4th at the Villar Center in Beaver Creek, CO, includes stops at The Hollywood Bowl on August 10th, BB Kings Club in New York on September 20th and the Ryman Auditorium on October 7th. A complete list of tour dates are here:  http://www.kebmo.com/site/tour.

The highly-anticipated collection is his first studio release since his 2006 album, Suitcase, and also marks the first on his newly formed record label Yolabelle International in association with Ryko and Warner Music Group. Self-produced, The Reflection features duets with India.Arie and Vince Gill, as well as performances by Dave Koz, Marcus Miller, Mindi Abair and world-renowned studio musician David T. Walker. His trademark honest, unadorned vocal, his deceptively simple, sublime guitar work and his catchy melodies are here, of course, but with this recording Keb is more expressive than ever.

"I worked on this record for the better part of 2 years," says Keb. "It took me some time as this was an educational process for me and my engineer John Schirmer. I didn't want to let it go until I had something that I was proud to share with the public. It's the culmination of all of my influences throughout my career."

Keb recently guest starred on TNT's hit show "Memphis Beat." Keb is the music composer for the show and performs the theme song. He discusses the show's music and episodes the day after each show, online here:  http://www.tnt.tv/series/memphisbeat.

Keb Mo has consistently garnered acclaim throughout his career, with three of his records winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. He co-wrote "I Hope" with the Dixie Chicks which received a Grammy nomination for Country Song of the Year. A gifted songwriter, Keb's songs have been covered by legendary artists including BB King, Natalie Cole and more and he has appeared on recordings by Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Jackson Browne, to name a few. Additionally, his music has made numerous appearances in film and television, most notably in Martin Scorsese: Feel Like Going Home, concert documentary "Lightning in a Bottle," and more.

Dawes Announce Co-Headlining North American Tour With Blitzen Trapper

Dawes has confirmed a fall tour, which they will be co-headlining with Blitzen Trapper.   The 29-date tour kicks off on October 7th in Petaluma, CA, and will hit major cities across the US and Canada. This tour follows the June release of their critically acclaimed sophomore album, Nothing Is Wrong. Rolling Stone raves that the members of Dawes are "the most promising purveyors of new-school country folk...so authentically vintage." The full list of tour dates is below.

Since the release of their debut album, 'North Hills' (which featured the breakout anthem, "When My Time Comes"), an extraordinary record that was released quietly and soon became regarded among critics and fans across the country as a classic and must-own favorite, Dawes has toured non-stop and earned a reputation for their road warrior work ethic along with their passionate and epic live performances.

So much so in fact, that Dawes was recently hand-picked by legends Robbie Robertson (The Band) and Jackson Browne to serve the backing band for their respective projects; performing with Robertson on some special TV performances (Late Night with David Letterman, The View, and The Jools Holland Show) and with Browne on a recent European tour.

According to Robertson: "They're really good and they're a band - it's different than just getting a bunch of individual musicians and trying to make them click and blend. They're all at the top of their game...they know what works. I appreciate a young band with a broad horizon. Dawes is that in spaces."

Browne states: "Dawes are an incredible young band. Their singer, Taylor Goldsmith, is a brilliant songwriter with very hip lyrics. He and his brother Griffin have one of those great familial harmony blends. You can't mention a record that these guys haven't listened to."

Prior to the Fall tour, Dawes will head out on a month-long sold-out tour with GRAMMY Award winning, Alison Krauss and Union Station.

The response to Nothing Is Wrong has been excellent. Paste Magazine declared, "they stand on the cusp of becoming a force to be reckoned with for years to come," while American Songwriter admired how "Dawes' second album succeeds on its own terms...capturing the quartet's vibrant musical rapport and chops." "In two short years," noted Relix, "Dawes has emerged as one of the finest bands in the burgeoning neo-folk scene." The Philadelphia Inquirer called the album "wise and touching...a bittersweet treat," while the Chicago Sun-Times was taken by its "finely crafted modern country-rock."

Dawes and Blitzen Trapper will release a free six-song EP available for download and blog posting (visit www.dawestheband.com for embeddable widget). The EP consists of three Dawes songs and three Blitzen Trapper songs.

Each band will launch a joint pre-sale on Friday, August 5th at 10 AM EST prior to the public on-sale on Friday, August 12th (check local outlets for respective times).

By purchasing tickets directly from either band's website, fans will be allowed to:

TOM MORELLO UNVEILS DEBUT COMIC SERIES AT SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

Tom Morello unveiled his debut comic seriesOrchid, at San Diego Comic Con last night.  From Dark Horse Comics, Orchid is an epic fantasy story set in a dystopian future infused with Morello's class conscious worldview and the politics of street terrorism.  "It's like Lord of the Rings meets Battle of Algiers," said Morello.  "I wanted to craft a story that has the same visceral impact and political clout as the music I've been involved in."  Part Suicide Girl, part Joan of Arc - Orchid is the tale of a 16-year-old street prostitute who learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her.  When the seas rose, genetic codes were smashed.  Human settlements are now ringed by a dense wilderness from which ferocious new animal species prey on the helpless.  The high ground belongs to the rich and powerful that overlook swampland shantytowns from their fortress-like cities.  Iron-fisted rule ensures order and allows the wealthy to harvest the poor as slaves. This is the world of Orchid .

The debut issue of Orchid features a variant cover by the well-known and influential street artist Shepard Fairey, with interior art by Scott Hepburn (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic). Orchid will be released over the course of twelve issues with the first issue on sale October 12th, 2011.  Morello has written a score for the series which will serve as a soundtrack to the story. Each song will be distributed as a free rack available with the purchase of each issue.

World Wide Rebel Songs Cover Art

Morello is also set to release his solo album, World Wide Rebel Songs, on August 30th via New West Records.  The 12-track set is the follow up to the 2008 The Nightwatchman album The Fabled City and was produced by Morello.  While Morello's solo albums as The Nightwatchman have primarily been acoustic affairs, World Wide Rebel Songs features a full electric band, "The Freedom Fighter Orchestra."  Morello stated "The genesis for the idea came when I played 'The Ghost Of Tom Joad' on stage with Bruce Springsteen.  That was the first time I had ever sung with an electric guitar in my hand, and I saw that it could be done."  On the 2008 Nightwatchman tour in support of The Fabled City, he took along the musicians who now comprise "The Freedom Fighter Orchestra."  Over the course of those shows, he says "I became comfortable melding my worlds as an electric guitarist and folk troubadour."  When describing the album, Morello stated "Troubled times call out for troubled songs.  World Wide Rebel Songs is an album of rousing hopelessness and this time The Nightwatchman has brought along his electric guitar to tip the scales.  I wanted to capture a vibe midway between Johnny Cash and Che Guevara, murder ballads and Molotov anthems." The song "Save The Hammer For The Man" was co-written with Ben Harper and features Harper on vocals and guitar.   World Wide Rebel Songs is the 14th studio album of Tom Morello's influential career.

Tom Morello will also be supporting Incubus in the US in August and Rise Against in Europe in November.  In addition to playing the Musicians United For Safe Energy benefit concert with Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bonnie Raitt and more, he has also announced a performance at the Ottawa Folk Festival on August 27th and a solo, acoustic show at NYC's City Winery on September 1st.

Carter Tanton (Tulsa/Lower Dens) Announces Fall Tour with The War on Drugs, New Album "Freeclouds"

Carter Tanton (formerly known as Tulsa and current member of Lower Dens) has announced a national tour with The War on Drugs and Purling Hiss behind his forthcoming full-length, Freeclouds with Western Vinyl. Slated for a November 15th release, the album features the enchanting vocals of Boston dream-folk artist Marissa Nadler.

Tanton's last release with Tulsa, I Was Submerged won the approval of both the media and fans alike, praised by NPR, SPIN and Rolling Stone, who said Tanton's "indie-seraphim voice is not of this world." Discouraged by a Tulsa follow up EP that was never released the band split and Tanton focused his energy on his role as guitar player in Marissa Nadler's band, touring extensively and recording and arranging parts for her recently released self-titled record. His experience working on Nadler's album ultimately served as the catalyst that inspired him to record Freeclouds.

Many of the tracks written for Freeclouds, as well as the album's title, reference David Bowie's "Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud." Tanton's imagery, emotions, and melodies feel like a continuation of the forlorn and tragic atmosphere Bowie created. In addition to recording and co-writing one song on Marissa Nadler's well-received 2011 album, Tanton has recorded albums by George Lewis Jr (Twin Shadow) and Drug Rug among others.

Deborah Allen to Release New Album 'Hear Me Now' Aug. 16

Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and performer Deborah Allen is releasing her long-anticipated new album, titled Hear Me Now, on Aug. 16.

Hear Me Now
includes Allen's current single, the danceable Country-shuffle "Anything Other Than Love," which continues its steady climb up the Music Row chart.  The 12 songs on the album reflect Allen's overall versatility as a singer and songwriter, as well as her trademark ability to incorporate elements of Country, Blues, Pop, Rock and Gospel into a cohesive piece of art.  Allen also produced nine of the album's 12 tracks.

"Each song on Hear Me Now is a musical journey, and together they make one of my favorite collections of music I have ever released," says Allen.  "I know it's been a while since my last record, so I thought it would be appropriate for my new album to be called Hear Me Now.  When you are listening to these songs, know that you are listening to a little piece of my heart!"

Allen is accompanied on Hear Me Now by some of Nashville's finest songwriters and musicians, including Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame member Gary Burr ("Anything Other Than Love" co-writer), and nomineeGary Nicholson, 12-time ACM Guitarist of the Year and two-time CMA Musician of the Year Brent Mason, ACM Keyboard Player of the Year Michael Rojas, ACM Guitarist of the Year Brent Rowan and legendary songwriter/producer Bobby Braddock, who produced three songs on the album ("All That I Want," "Last Time For Everything," "What Makes A Woman").  Marty Stuart drummer Harry Stinson, former Shenandoah vocalist Curtis Wright and Pebe Sebert (mother of Pop star Ke$ha) also contribute material as songwriters on Hear Me Now.

"Deborah is singing better than ever, which is saying a lot!" says Braddock.  "'Anything Other Than Love' is one of the best Country singles in years.  It just keeps rockin' my brain!"

Hear Me Now opens with one of Allen's favorite new songs, the powerful and poignant ballad "Amazing Graceland," which the Delta singer wrote after her first visit inside Elvis' Graceland mansion two years ago.

"I could feel Elvis' spirit in every room," says Allen, who was born and raised in Memphis.  "I was so moved.  On the way back to Nashville, the one word that kept going through my head was 'amazing.'  As soon as I walked in my back door, I went straight to the piano and began writing this song as a tribute for the international legend, my hometown hero and the beautiful place he called home."

The Aug. 16 release of Hear Me Now coincides with Elvis week, held in Memphis Aug. 10-16.  Allen will appear at numerous events during the week, including a performance at George Klein's Memphis Mafia Reunion on Aug. 14 and an appearance at the Elvis Candlelight Vigil on Aug. 16.

As an artist with career hits like "Baby I Lied," "I've Been Wrong Before," "Rock Me" and "I Hurt For You," Deborah Allen is a two-time Grammy nominee and a recipient of multiple BMI Millionaire Airplay awards.  As one of Nashville's most versatile songwriters, Allen has a catalog of more than 1,600 published songs, including cuts for LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, John Conlee, Janie Fricke, Isaac Hayes, Diana Ross, Sheena Easton, Fleetwood Mac and others.

Hear Me Now will be available Aug. 16 at retail stores and through all major digital outlets, including iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody and more.  The album is released in a joint venture with Nashville-based digital label, GMV Nashville.
