The Joy Formidable Announce Headlining US Tour in March

Welsh trio The Joy Formidable are happy to announce headlining tour dates across the United States for March of 2012. The tour will begin on March 12 in San Francisco and end on April 2 in Toronto. On the way, the band will play such major markets as Los Angeles at The Music Box on March 14 and New York's Terminal 5 on March 28. The band will be supported on all dates by A Place To Bury Strangers. Exitmusic will open for both bands beginning in Minneapolis on March 19. For complete tour dates and information, please see below.

The tour is the band's first news in the US following a breakout 2011 year, where the band released their debut full-length The Big Roar to great acclaim upon release and as part of year-end retrospectives. Paste included the album on their top 50 albums of 2011 list, noting the band has created "a sound that is uniquely their own, but still nostalgic for rock of the past."

Songs from The Big Roar made numerous critic's best songs of 2011 lists, from Rolling Stone, who called "The Everchanging Spectrum of a Lie" "Nearly eight minutes of cranium-rattling alt-rock noise, building an end-of-days racket from singer-guitarist Ritzy Bryan's juddering riffs and furious wails;" to Pitchfork, who called "Whirring" "an aerobic rush of a song that builds to [an] explosive alt-rock chorus," hailing the band as "prime purveyors of bubble-grunge nostalgia." iTunes named "Whirring" their Alternative Song of the year, while NPR named it one of their 100 favorite tracks of the year, and also named The Joy Formidable as one of their favorite new bands of the year. Local publications named the band's live show as one of the best of 2011, including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Tribune praised the band's performance, noting "Their boundless energy should serve them well as they ready their sophomore album."

The band ended 2011 with a bang, supporting the Foo Fighters for multiple dates along  their east coast tour. The band performed on CBS' The Late Show With David Letterman, NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly, and Conan. 2011 also found the band appearing with their new song "Endtapes" as the opening track on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Down Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
